Hyderabad Woman Found Starving On Chicago Street, Mother Appeals For Help

A 37-year-old woman from Hyderabad, India, was found starving on a street in Chicago on July 25, 2023. The woman, identified as Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi, was reportedly found by a passerby who called 911. Zaidi was taken to a hospital, where she is being treated for malnutrition.

Zaidi's mother, Syeda Wahaj Fatima, has appealed to the Indian government for help in bringing her daughter back to India. Fatima said that Zaidi had gone to the United States to pursue a master's degree in information science, but that she had fallen on hard times. Fatima said that Zaidi's belongings had been stolen, and that she had been living on the streets for several weeks.

The Indian government has said that it is working to bring Zaidi back to India. A spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said that the government is "in touch with the authorities in Chicago and are providing all necessary assistance."

Zaidi's story has sparked outrage and concern in India. Many people have expressed sympathy for Zaidi and her family, and have called for the government to do more to help her.

The case of Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi is a reminder of the challenges that many international students face. It is important for students to be aware of the risks involved in studying abroad, and to take steps to protect themselves. If you are an international student who is struggling, please reach out for help. There are many resources available to you, including the Indian government, your school, and non-profit organizations.
