The United States announced today that it will be providing Ukraine with Black Hornet Nano drones as part of a $400 million security assistance package. The Black Hornet Nano is a small, stealthy unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can be used for reconnaissance and surveillance. It is equipped with a camera that can transmit live video and HD still images back to the operator. The UAV is also very quiet, making it difficult to detect.
The U.S. believes that the Black Hornet Nano will be a valuable asset to Ukrainian forces. The UAV can be used to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance, identify and track enemy forces, assess damage after an attack, and provide situational awareness to ground troops.
"The Black Hornet Nano is a powerful tool that can help Ukrainian forces to gain a better understanding of the battlefield and to identify and track enemy forces," said Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. "This will give Ukrainian forces a significant advantage in the fight against Russian forces."
The provision of the Black Hornet Nano is the latest in a series of U.S. military assistance packages to Ukraine. The U.S. has provided Ukraine with billions of dollars in military aid since Russia invaded the country in February 2022.
"The United States is committed to helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity," said President Biden. "We will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance to help it prevail in this fight."
The Black Hornet Nano is manufactured by Teledyne FLIR Defense. The drones are expected to be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks.
